Chandralekha is a 1995 romantic tragedy film directed by Nambhiraaj with Vijay and Vanitha Vijaykumar(daughter of actor Vijaykumar) at the lead roles. The film produced by N. Sreedevi was made under the banner of Shri Sairam Arts Pvt Ltd. The 162 minutes film was made at a budget of 1.7 crore rupees. Though the film was released on 23 October 1995 during the Deepavali it couldn't earn much in the box office.

MUSIC
The music for the film was composed by the greatest tamil music director of all time Ilayaraaja. The film comprises of a total of eight songs. The songs were written by lyricists such as Vaali, Kamakodiyan, Muthulingam and Panju Arunachalam.

STORYLINE
The film deals with an inter-cast love. The heroine, Chandralekha, an orthodox Brahmin girl fell in love with the hero Rahim, a muslim boy. Whereas Salima, Jamal's sister was in deep love with Rahim since her childhood. Meanwhile Rahim's brother Musthafa agrees with Jamal to engage Salima and Rahim without the consent of Rahim. The Orthodox families discover the love between Rahim and Chandralekha and opposes it. Meanwhile the lovers escape from the scene but are caught by the militants in the forest. The police rescue them from the militants and bring back them to the village. But Jamal being angry and upset about her sister kill Rahim and Chandralekha. Then Jamal gets killed by the police.
The movie showcases that love is beyond all ie; beyond religion, caste and creed.
